Kyle comments on Twilight Fans

Lately, we have been receiving feedback for our literature podcast “AFTER HOURS” and while we have yet to receive emails of any sort, those who are loyal listeners in town have been generally supportive, and for good reason; with 250 downloads per month since we first debuted with our first episode I think we are doing pretty solid. However it is to be expected with the way we review and criticize just about anything that is placed in front of us that we would be confronted by more than just one person about the subject matter we are criticizing.  The biggest of these complaints are on our issues with the twilight series. Particularly that I, Kyle have not have read, in its entirety, and as such have no right to criticize the series. Those who say those things definitely have a point, but I have been reading long enough to know the difference between good writing and bad writing, good characterization and bad characterization, and good plot and retarded plot. Between the excerpts I have read, and research on the general plot I can define it as stale and one dimensional at best. And Stephanie Meyer’s  insistence on hinting at her personal religion of Mormonism, offends me. But even when I point these things out, they defend the characters and the book it self claiming that it is so deep I just dont understand it. So Deep? I have read books that would make their heads burst open, particularly “House of Leaves” and “Only Revolutions”, books that are deep, hell The confessions of Georgia Nicolson has more depth than Stephanie’s mormon trash. So instead of criticizing me, take a moment to reread your favorite books from a different perspective, focus on the writing and the plot’s short comings. Peace.
